Settlement reports can be imported by CSV as well as pulled live, so periods that pre-date your API access still reconcile instead of starting your books at zero.

Yes. Your ledgers export to CSV from the product, and the underlying data is yours. A tool that holds your books hostage is not one you should put your books into.
